Hey everyone and welcome to my new blog! I am Mardie, a 27 years old Dutchie and crazy about sewing and pattern alterations. I’ve been sewing since I was 15, with a special interest in historical patterns. On my blog you can follow my sewing adventures, or check out my handmade fabric treasures in my Etsy shop.
To start things off let me show you my sewing room.
My sewing room is a ~ 14m2 bedroom in our house. It used to be our master bedroom, hence the dark blue colour we picked out for it. When we swapped bedrooms (better light, more space for our clothes) I didn’t feel the need to repaint it.
On the wall are cards and posters by various artists, or just cards I got from friends & family. I change out the cards about twice a year.
I am right handed so it makes sense to have the natural light come from the left. During the day this is a very nice and sunny room. After 4pm it does get quite dark though.
My first sewing machine is a Singer 5810C that my Mum got when she got married. She made many baby clothes and later Barbie clothes on this! When I moved out I could take it with me as I was at that point more into sewing than she was.
I store my machines on a 2×2 Kallax unit with drawers and wheels. Next to it is my small ironing board – the large ironing board is in our bedroom.
I keep fabric (left) and unfinished projects (right) in the bins.
The drawers hold my basic supplies – habedashery, thread, seam tape and pins. I have another box in the cupboard with thread colours I don’s use that often.
Behind the door is a bin with my most recent WIP – in this instance a pink dress with waterfall collar.
My other sewing machine is a Singer 14SH754 serger. I am very happy I took the step towards a serger as it sews so cleanly and I can work with stretchy fabrics more easily.
The rest of the room is storage for random trinkets like my make-up, the barbecue, our suitcases etc. I also hang our clothes to dry here.
This is a fold-up chair bed that folds out to a 1 person guest bed. We don’t really use it as we have a 2 person fold-out couch, but it is a nice chair. The button side table is my precious possession!
Finally a custom made clock by my aunt, who has a Silhouette plotter. Now I never lose track of time!
